Alistair Irving Chang follows the random development of ideas in an exploration of material and form. In 2004, he officially launched Oehm Design at the IMM Cologne in Germany. Following the success of the show is he then began curating Canadian design talent abroad working closely with Ontario Exports Inc to promote and increase visibility of local designers to an international audience. He opened a prototype design co-op called Sweat Shop shortly thereafter. In 2006, Chang relocated to Los Angeles to pursue a career in architecture. He has since rediscovered a dormant love for the carved object, both in wood and marble. He continues to create in various arenas of design.

As an artist Chang is embarking on an investigation to expose one's voices of insistence. He explores the dynamics of the human soul, and seeks to create deeply emotional work while celebrating technical prosiest and the tactile quality of the carved object. Each piece reveals itself through meticulous hands that choreograph every blow from the mantel to the chisel. He employs a collection of handmade carving instruments such as files, rasps, riflers, mallets and various chisels.
